Episode 12: Dogma in Ergosphere#
The Time Leap Machine works. SERN knows. The episode the whole Alpha arc has been pricing finally comes due, and the bill is made out to Mayuri Shiina.
Synopsis#
Working from Kurisu's lecture and Daru's hijack of SERN's LHC as a relay, the lab completes the Time Leap Machine in a montage the score refuses to celebrate. The device is tested on nothing: Kurisu will not permit a human trial, and for one afternoon the lab simply has a working mind-transfer device and a party planned for the evening.
The party never happens. Moeka arrives first — with a Rounder unit behind her and a gun in her hand. The stolen archive, the D-Mail logs, the leap machine: SERN wants all of it, and the personnel are "material." In the raid's held-breath center, Mayuri's pocket watch — her grandmother's — stops.
Moeka shoots Mayuri. The scene is scored with nothing at all.1
Suzuha crashes through the window a minute too late, buying Okabe seconds; Kurisu pushes him into the chair of the untested machine. The last thing Okabe sees on this worldline is his lab full of smoke. The last thing he hears is Kurisu telling him the machine only goes back 48 hours at most.
The leap succeeds. Okabe wakes in his own body, two days earlier, in a worldline where the raid has not happened yet — and is coming no matter what he does. Welcome to the mechanism of the next arc.

This episode establishes what the Alpha attractor field converges on: Mayuri's death. Okabe will leap, and leap, and leap through episode-13 and episode-14, and the field will route around every intervention — a truck, a stray bullet, a crowd, a staircase. The watch stopping first becomes the arc's death knell motif.
The fandom's name for the phenomenon, borrowed from Kurisu's whiteboard in episode-07, is the convergence anchor; the wiki tracks every on-screen variant at Alpha worldline: the anchor.

- Moeka's D-Mail from episode-08 is confirmed as a SERN retrieval order — the IBN 5100's loss and this raid share one author.
- The watch was established, casually, in episode-01 — the longest fuse in the season.
- Suzuha's window entrance mirrors her episode-01 rooftop landing.

Moeka does not celebrate. Her orders came from a handler she has never met, whose approval is the only human connection she has; the series will eventually put Okabe in a room with that fact and dare him to hate her. The Rounders arc resolves in the back half of the season — bring tissues and a flowchart.
