Faris's wish rewrites a decade of city planning. Okabe steps out of the lab into an Akihabara with no maid cafes, no anime billboards, and no reason to have ever welcomed people like him.

Synopsis#

Faris NyanNyan — owner-mascot of May Queen Nyan-Nyan and undefeated champion of the Rai-Net card scene — asks for her D-Mail: a message to her past self, ten years back, contents private. Okabe grants it. The lurch comes.

The Akihabara Okabe walks out into is electronics-district Akihabara, the pre-2000s version: gray storefronts, component bins, no May Queen, no Rai-Net, no moe culture at all. Faris's father — dead in every previous line — is alive, and the family's influence steered the district's development down another path entirely.¹

Mayuri's cosplay circle never formed. Daru's favorite shops never opened. The lab itself survives, but the city around it has been swapped out from under everyone — and only Okabe grieves a version of the town that, here, never existed.

Divergence: $0.456903 \to 0.409431$. The largest cultural shift of the series from the smallest stated wish — the Homeostasis trilogy's thesis in one move.

The episode's ethical hinge: Faris is happier here. Her father is alive. She remembers nothing of the other city — except that, when pressed, she tells Okabe about a dream of a cat-eared cafe, and thanks him for a promise he made in a worldline she cannot remember.²

Okabe does not undo this line in this episode. He files it, in his ledger, under debts. The undoing — and Faris's own choice about it — waits until the back half of the season, where each Homeostasis wish is paid down in reverse order.
